Jane Speed

1910-1958
Jane Speed was born to a privileged Alabama family. She and her mother Mary Craik Speed became communists, and Jane owned a radical bookstore in Montgomery. In 1937 she married Puerto Rican communist labor leader César Andreu Iglesias and moved to Puerto Rico, where she continued her activism until her death from a stroke in 1958. It has been a longstanding project of mine to write a short biographical pamphlet on her life and activism. It still is.
